Marc-Andre Fleurygoalkeeper of NHL among the most successful in the category, he presumably played his last match in his Pittsburgh where he played for many seasons. This will most likely be his last season: at 39 years old he has won everything he could win as well as being one of the best goalkeepers in NHL. In his team’s last match, i Minnesota Wild, Fleury he returned to Pittsburgh. His performance was exceptional, with 26 saves, leading the Wild to a 5-3 victory.
NHL, Fleury: 14 seasons at the Penguins and a career to remember
Fleury was drafted in 2003 by the Pittsburgh Penguins with the first overall pickmade his debut at 18, becoming the youngest goaltender to do so in the NHL. In 14 seasons he won 3 Stanley Cups, 2009, 2016 and 2017. Over the years he has held extremely high averages in the save percentagealways around the 90%. In 2017 he then moved to the Vegas Golden Knights, then to the Chicago Blackhawks and now to the current Minnesota Wild. In the Canadian national team he won the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010as well as 2 world silver medals in U20.

After the match between Penguins e Wild several statements were released by various people including himself Fleury. Hai microphones said: “I do not know. Maybe it’s hard to believe this is the last time. I told you I was moved. Yes, it’s hard to believe, but I’m so grateful“. Even his ex-partner Sidney Crosby with whom he shared a lot said of him: “I think it’s a great way to celebrate it. I think the fans got big ovations for the videos and stuff like that. He means a lot to the team, to the fans, to the organization, to the guys that played with him. So, yeah, probably mixed emotions. Happy that he had the opportunity to play in this match and receive that kind of ovation. And then, of course, sad to see that it’s his last year“.
For Fleury, Pittsburgh is much more than just a city it’s something extra that goes beyond, an unconditional love for a place where he has always felt very comfortable. He grew sportingly and humanly speaking. He is certainly an example for many kids who want to take up this sport.
