The consulate published a photo with Romania’s stand at a tourism fair in New York, boasting of “dissemination of exclusive information” and tourism offers. But the picture shows what the stand was like. On a black canvas were caught from time to time several photos in A4 format with tourist attractions in Romania.
“Representatives of our country have benefited, throughout the event, from the support and logistical support of the leadership of the Consulate General of Romania in New York and the Bureau of Commercial and Economic Promotion,” the post reads.
Critical reactions were not long in coming, and the post has been deleted. However, the image went viral.
Reactions after posting the Consulate
Claudiu Năsui, former USR minister:
- “The people of New York, who organized this extraordinary stand with printed A4 sheets, are the biggest sinecure of the ministry. It’s called the “external network.” People who pay a few times better than the minister don’t do much for a lot of money. Just so you know. The lowest monthly salary was 6,000 euros per month, the highest was 12,000 euros per month. “
Răzvan Pascu, tourism consultant:
- “But personally, if I could not raise funds for such a thing, I would resign. If I couldn’t change anything, I’d leave. And rather than sign a quote for such a participation of my country in an international tourism fair, I would rather cut my hand. To take a picture and post on Facebook with such a mess, that would mean that I am still very stupid. Not only incompetent, but also stupid. I would be ashamed to look up from the ground. “
Cristian Preda, professor and politician:
- “If ICR recently appointed only high-class cultural diplomacy experts to its foreign affiliates, tourism officials could not be left behind: at a trade fair in New York, they persuaded millions of Americans to visit our country using 10 pictures. caught in a black curtain. Simply brilliant! ”
Cristi Dimitriu, communication expert:
- “So a black canvas with photos taken to the printer in A4 format and fastened with clips as a background for those who offered” logistical support “for” such a presentation “as you can not find” anywhere else. ” Even the comma in the text feels awkward and does not stand next to Romania. A high school Ro student would have made a much better panel. It would be really interesting who the “representatives” of Romania were and what the whole stand at the fair looked like. I don’t write about the wooden language of the communist essence in which the post is written and about the people in the photo that the Romanians started commenting hard on the post. ”
