Alexandra Hervé is making the leap this year from karting, which she has been practicing since 2015, to cars. A passion transmitted by his father, Joseph, himself a driver and former karting champion. She is mainly trained by Didier Blot, who has contributed to the success of other drivers who now play in Formula 1.
For her transition to serious things, the Mourner chose the single-seater and the advice of Lionel Robert, who has participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans nine times. Formula Renault 2.0 is very successful.
With its significant aerodynamic downforce and vast adjustment possibilities, it is an ideal educational tool for the young apprentice pilot.
Provisional classification
After the Paul-Ricard, the Val de Vienne and Lédenon, Alexandra measured herself at the Dijon-Prenois circuit in Dijon (Côte-d’Or), on July 9 and 10, reputed to be a real justice of the peace.
With its long hilly curves, its lap average is the highest on the calendar. Pointed successively 13th, 11th and 14th in free practice, Alexandra set the 15th fastest time in qualifying.
She managed to improve on this position in both races, with a 14th place on Saturday and a 12th place. Which puts her in the Top 10 of the Cup by Tte category.
My last race was in early May. I had missed a day of competition due to a mechanical problem. Since then, we have done tests in Dijon and Croix-en-Ternois, but overall, I lack driving. I immediately loved the Dijon track. For budgetary reasons, I only drove on old tires in free practice, which affected my performance in qualifying. Then, I took marks which were no longer the right ones with the new tyres.
Alexandra draws lessons from her Burgundian getaway: “Among the positive points, I remember my starts, which I have improved a lot since the start of the season, and my resistance to pressure during race 2, when I managed to keep my closest pursuer behind me until at the end. My team-manager Hervé David encouraged me on the radio »says the pilot.
I kept 4 tenths ahead of the line… I made good starts and adopted a good rhythm at the start of the race but in the last laps, the physique had a hard time keeping up. I always give everything I have as soon as the lights go out and I still managed to finish both races in the points. But I understood that it was necessary to go further in terms of physical training and to develop a real program adapted to the requirements of this sport.
The summer break will be the next opportunity to see Alexandra at the wheel of her single-seater. It will coincide with the arrival of autumn on September 22, 23 and 24, on the Gers circuit of Nogaro.
His goal remains to participate in a European single-seater championship. The W Series, an event set up by the international federation and reserved for women, which takes place at the opening of the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The mourning pilot already benefits from the support of the French Motor Sports Federation (Ffsa), which is betting on more parity.
