Perfection from Mercedes. The AMG One has a formula engine and runs on the road

The five-and-a-half-year journey from the German Mercedes-AMG development center to the road is over. The carmaker has officially introduced the plug-in hybrid hypersport AMG One in a production version. At the same time, the management itself admitted that the completion of the car seemed unrealistic at first.

Under the hood of the car, which acts more like a racing special, there is a 1.6-liter six-cylinder turbocharged engine with 573 horsepower, which spins 11,000 rpm, while meeting all the requirements of the latest version of the Euro 6 standard, which is practically a miracle .

Because of this, Mercedes had to install a sophisticated exhaust gas cleaning system under the hood.

With the internal combustion engine, there are four more electric motors in the AMG One. Two of them are at the front wheels – the car thus has all-wheel drive – and they put together 326 horses. One is attached to a six-cylinder, which gives 163 horses. Finally, the last electric motor is connected to the turbocharger and provides 122 horsepower.

Together, this gives a combined output of 1,063 horsepower at a weight of less than 1,700 kilograms. Thanks to a specially developed seven-speed robotic manual, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.9 seconds and can travel up to 350 km / h.

As a plug-in hybrid, it of course has traction batteries, mainly – mainly due to the effort to save weight – with a capacity of 8.4 kWh. The AMG One can therefore travel 18 kilometers in electric mode.

It also has a sophisticated recuperation system and water-cooled batteries. It can maintain a constant temperature of 45 ° C around them, even when driving fast on the circuit.

In addition to the technical conveniences under the hood, the AMG One boasts a number of active aerodynamic elements that generate true downforce from a speed of 50 km / h.

Active aerodynamic elements adjust their function depending on the selected driving mode, and the carmaker says that in the circuit mode, the pressure is five times higher than the road mode.

Also worth mentioning are the pushrod suspension, the magnesium wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R M01 tires, specially developed for this car, and the carbon-ceramic brakes.

In the cab, the One looks like a real race car, but it doesn’t lack two displays or air conditioning or a reversing camera. However, most of the controls are on the steering wheel, which, with its shape close to Formula 1, essentially allows it to be held other than in the “three-quarters to three” position.

Mercedes let it be heard that it will produce 275 pieces of this unique car with a price tag of around 55 million crowns. All are already sold.
