The Eagle went to Panama to beat Club Atlético Independiente (CAI) 3-0, with the unstoppable streak that the bird is currently flying with, in preparation for the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Central American Cup. The Salvadoran team will face Real Estelí of Nicaragua in the next round.
In the first 5 minutes of the match, Águila looked imprecise and inferior to CAI, they tried to find their way around the field to create the first chance that would give them comfort, but they were not effective.
Santos Ortiz tried in the 6th minute, in the goal of Martín Hernández, the home team’s goalkeeper, with a diagonal pass that had the potential to be the first for the feathered team and to secure their passage to the next round; however, the ball went wide of the second post.
The 20th minute had passed and Águila still had not found themselves facing the “Vikings” team, who despite not having the chance to qualify for the next round, wanted to close the group stage in the best way.
At 21′, with a corner kick from the Brazilian of the feathered ones, Dionatan Machado, the feathered team looked for the first with Julio Sibrián, but the defensive line of the locals did not allow it.
At 23′, Independiente increased its presence in the danger zone, but missed the opportunity, after Jorge Clement’s assist, for David Contreras, the latter had the ball in Benji Villalobos’s box, but missed.
After half an hour, Independiente gave another warning in Benji Villalobos’ area, with the arrival of Martín Ruiz on the left side, but inaccuracy was a key characteristic for the home team.
With more opportunities for Independiente than Águila, this is how the first part of the match in Panama ended, where neither team was able to show effectiveness.
Upon their return, Alexander “El Cacho” Larín and Ronald Rodríguez gave indications about the change of pace that Águila had, with two dangerous shots at Hernández’s goal. Melvin Cartagena joined the insistence, with a shot at 54′ from the front that promised to be a great goal.
At 58′, Águila’s persistence bore fruit, because after a corner from Alexander Larín, Ronald Rodríguez headed the ball and the team celebrated the first goal of the match to partially taste qualification.
At 78′, thanks to an assist from Santos Ortiz, Blas Sosa was in charge of making it 2-0, as he found himself in the front and did not hesitate to finish the ball. Only 2 minutes later, the captain of the team from San Miguel, Darwin Cerén, appeared to add the third with which the team sealed its ticket to the quarterfinals where it will face Estelí.
