Sergio Perez, who won the last race on Thursday, said that the victory was possible due to the fact that, by coincidence, the team “had to work with two cars”, and this one “Red Bull had only one.”
On Friday, team principal Christian Horner disagreed with his rider’s comments…
Christian Horner: “For the first time I hear him say that. Ever since we came into the sport in 2005, we’ve always run two cars, always wanted two of the best drivers to drive them.
In 21 Sergio came to us after the season with Covid-19 and before the change of regulations – he had problems with that car, but last year he felt more confident, won two of our 17 victories. He’s started the season well this year and it’s nice to see Perez doing a great job.
Our team has always strived to provide both riders with the best opportunities and the best equipment that we are capable of. Then everything depends on their results on the track. Our riders know the rules of interaction and understand that the interests of the team are above all.
Unfortunately this year due to wind tunnel time limitations we don’t have the same development opportunities as other teams, so it’s important to score as many points as possible in the first half of the season as the opposition will certainly improve later.”
