Perez hits home run; Royals cut bad streak

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Salvador Perez broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the sixth inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Houston Astros 6-0 on Saturday to snap a five-game losing streak.

Kris Bubic and the Kansas City bullpen combined on a five-hit spree to derail Houston, which was riding a five-game winning streak.

Venezuelan Pérez hit his home run with two outs in the sixth inning against his compatriot, starter Luis García (3-4). The ball landed in the bullpen, behind right field.

Perez added an RBI double during a four-run eighth inning.

Pérez’s seventh homer of the season allowed him to come out of a hole in which he had hit 0-for-22. It was his first four-corner stick since May 14.

He had not pushed a race since May 15. Last season, he led the major leagues with 121 RBIs and was tied with Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for the majors’ home run lead with 48 homers.

Four relievers completed the Royals’ fourth shutout. The victory was in the hands of Collin Snyder (4-2).

For the Astros, the Venezuelan José Altuve 4-0. Cubans Yordan Álvarez 2-1, Yuli Gurriel 4-0. The Dominicans Jeremy Peña 4-0, José Siri 4-0. Puerto Rican Martin Maldonado.

For the Royals, the Venezuelan Pérez 4-2 with two runs scored and three produced. Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rivera 4-1.
