“It’s a whole different world to be honest. It’s like I’ve ended up in a different class. It’s just a different category,” Sergio Perez sums up in conversation with Motorsport his move to Red Bull together. The Mexican is having a hard time and can only sporadically compete at the front for the podium places.
According to him, the car is completely different. Combine that with the pressure that comes with it and it’s a tough job. “It was a great opportunity for me, but I also know that Red Bull has a very different philosophy,” said the driver who made the switch from Racing Point last winter.
“I went from one team to a completely different team in terms of the car. It’s been harder than expected to change teams, especially because Red Bull is a team that is fighting for the title. It’s great to be a part of that.” but at the same time it’s difficult because you’re not quite used to the car and you can’t get everything out of it. I didn’t really have the chance to do that.”
He hopes for improvement, but takes time. “I’m learning a lot and it will eventually get better. It’s not an easy process, but it’s still going on. To join a new team, a new structure, like Red Bull, it’s very difficult and it’s not easy to find your place. But it’s going in the right direction.”
