Sergio Perez was half a second short for pole position in Portugal, much to the disappointment of the Red Bull driver himself. Perez speaks of a ‘very messy’ qualification.
“This was definitely not my best qualifying session. He was very, very messy when it comes to finding my rhythm and grip. I never got over this during the session and didn’t get into my rhythm,” said the Mexican Sky Sports.
“I tried everything, but it didn’t work today. Fortunately we still have a good starting position and hopefully things will go better during the race. Our race pace seems better than the speed over a lap.”
“Hopefully we can put a lot of pressure on the Mercedes and fight for the podium.”
Perez managed to reach fifth place in Bahrain in two races for Red Bull as the best result.
