SAN DIEGO (AP) — David Peralta hit a three-run homer an inning after robbing Sam Hillard of a four-run shot, and the San Diego Padres beat Colorado 10-2 Sunday for their first series win over the struggling Rockies in three tries this season.
Kyle Higashioka and All-Star Jurickson Profar also homered for the Padres, who had suffered five straight losses to the Rockies before Saturday night’s 3-2 victory. San Diego improved to a major league-leading 11-3 after the All-Star break.
Higashioka connected to left field in the fifth inning for his 13th homer, giving San Diego a 2-1 lead against former Padres left-hander Cal Quantrill (7-8). Profar connected to right field with one out for his 19th homer of the season. He is one shy of his career high.
Knuckleball pitcher Matt Waldron (7-9) pitched 5 2/3 innings, limiting the Rockies to one run and two hits while striking out seven and walking two. He allowed Brenton Doyle’s home run in the fourth, his 19th career-high.
For the Padres, Venezuelans Peralta went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and one run scored, Luis Arraez went 1-for-5 with one run scored. Dominican Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
