On Wednesday, it became clear that the entrepreneur Per Holknekt is losing his temper with the gambling companies. The Odd Molly founder, who claims to have been a gambling addict, gambled away many millions and accuses the gambling companies of aggressive and outreach marketing.
Among other things, the trial revolved around whether the gambling companies violated the so-called promotion ban
Holknekt therefore sued Unibet’s ownership company Kindred and Spooniker for over SEK 10 million.
In the judgment, it appears, among other things, that the lawsuit was directed against the wrong company and that it is another company that has owned the Unibet brand, which makes it difficult for the district court to award any damages.
Per Holknekt was also sentenced to pay the gambling companies’ legal costs of around SEK 2 million.
In a message to DN it appears at the same time that Per Holknekt has not given up.
– We assumed that the process in the district court was only phase 1 of this lengthy process and that yesterday’s verdict would be appealed by either party, regardless of the outcome. So we have been well prepared, writes Per Holknekt.
He writes that the team is now letting emotions settle and has “learned the other party’s argumentation” and will do an analysis to decide on the next step.
The judgment can be appealed to the Court of Appeal.
Per Holknekt emphasizes that no decisions have been made, but that the team must work further to clarify a number of circumstances.
– If we consider ourselves to have what it takes, and only then, we will appeal yesterday’s verdict, writes Per Holknekt.
The betting companies are fighting several battles at the moment. Betsson’s owner company BLM Group recently lost a dispute in Sweden and was ordered to pay back SEK 5.8 million to a player in a case that was appealed.
