Beverage and snack maker PepsiCo is one of the first companies to adopt and use electric Tesla Semi trucks. The company was actually the first to receive these cars. Now, PepsiCo representatives have shared their impressions and lessons learned from using these trucks on a daily basis.
The Tesla Semi truck came to PepsiCo at the company’s Sacramento warehouse, which is electrified and also specially adapted for this purpose. Living in sunny California, the area is equipped with solar panels. Most of the company’s 21 trucks are used for deliveries within 100 miles, with the machines making several stops. The car is on the road up to 12 hours a day. However, three machines are also used on longer routes, the distance of which varies from 400 to 700 kilometers.
Special Semi-designed Megacharger chargers, which provide up to 750kW of power, have been installed in PepsiCo’s territory in Sacramento. This means that the car can be charged up to 80% in less than 45 minutes during any lunch break. PepsiCo representatives admit that installing such high-capacity chargers is difficult enough, and they will learn from the experience in Sacramento as they continue to electrify their other facilities.
