Pep Guardiola Supports Lawsuit Against FIFA Over Playing Calendar Expansion Leading to Increase in Injuries

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has supported the idea of suing FIFA over the expansion of the playing calendar, which leads to an increase in the number of injuries.

Earlier, the head of the football players’ union, Maheta Molango, announced this idea. He said his colleagues were ready to consider legal action against FIFA after plans to expand club and international competitions further narrowed the windows between matches.

According to the Daily Mail, Guardiola recently suggested that players consider going on strike to show their dissatisfaction with the increasing number of tournaments and matches.

After yesterday’s match against Sheffield United, Pep publicly criticized FIFA’s actions: “Only players can change something. I have said many times that we have too many matches. The problem is that in the summer we only have three weeks of vacation. This is not enough to recover. Look at the number of injuries.”

In December, Manchester City played 9 matches – six in the Premier League, two in the Club World Cup and another in the Champions League. From 2025, the Club World Cup will be expanded to 32 teams.
