Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Pep Guardiola revealed that he received a message from Sir Alex Ferguson before the final match Liga Champions at the Olympic Ataturk Stadium.
Guardiola made Manchester City repeat the success of the treble winners of their neighbors and rivals Manchester United in 1999. The rivalry between the two one-city clubs became an additional spice in this Champions League final match this time.
Even though the rivalry is so thick, there is a spirit of sportsmanship shown by Ferguson as the coach who led MU to win three prestigious titles 24 years ago.
Reporting from Reuters, Guardiola revealed a message of encouragement from Ferguson on Saturday (10/6) morning.
“I feel honored to now equal Alex Ferguson. I got a message from him this morning that touched me, it was really beautiful,” said Guardiola.
The coach who has played as a midfielder at Barcelona, Brescia, AS Roma, Al Ahli and Dorados has now collected 12 titles for Man City.
In total Guardiola collected 17 titles with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Man City. The number of trophies is still quite far from Ferguson with 38 titles.
The title won in Istanbul is also proof of Guardiola’s efforts and waiting after the last time he won the Champions League in 2011 with Barcelona when he beat Ferguson’s Manchester United.
At the weekend, Ferguson also witnessed Man City, who was handled by Guardiola, beat MU in the FA Cup.
