Pep Guardiola has changed the way he plays and Kyle Walker doesn’t fit in anymore, says the head coach himself.

Manchester City have during the season switched to a type of 3-2-4-1 formation when they have the ball, while at the back they still defend as a four-back line. The “right-back” in Pep’s new system has more clearly acted as a central midfielder together with Rodri when City have the ball.

A change that made Kyle Walker wear more and more bench.

– He can’t do it. He will always have the speed. He will be the fastest in the room when he is 60 years old, but to play in the middle you have to have trained movement patterns, he has other qualities, says Pep Guardiola according to Sky Sports and continues:

– He has played full-back running inside in a four-back line with Joao (Cancelo) or ‘Aleks’ (Zintjenko) in that position and Kyle has done really well. But in this form with three in the back line and two midfielders, he can’t do that. He needs time and we don’t have that.

Kyle Walker’s contract with Manchester City expires in the summer of 2024. The 32-year-old has made 17 appearances in the league this season, only half of which are starts.
