Pep Guardiola firmly insists that Manchester City will become champions this season. The coach saw his team drop points in the past three competition games, but trusts his feeling.
“My feeling tells me that we are going to win the Premier League,” Guardiola said on Tuesday. “If we reach the level of the games against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, we will succeed.”
The Spaniard is referring to Manchester City’s last competitive appearances. The match against Spurs ended 3-3 on Sunday and a week earlier there was a 1-1 draw against Liverpool. Add to that the 4-4 draw against Chelsea and City has been waiting for a league victory for a month.
‘The Citizens’ have therefore dropped to third place in the standings. The gap to leader Arsenal is three points, while Liverpool has one point more. All this does not detract from the self-confidence of Guardiola, who has won three consecutive championships with City.
“People may not believe me after three draws in a row,” says the 52-year-old coach. “We also know that it is difficult, because no club in England has yet managed to win the national title four times in a row.”
City will try to record their first Premier League win since November 5 on Wednesday. That will not be an easy task, because opponent Aston Villa is the revelation of the season and has only one point less. The match at Villa Park will kick off at 9.15 pm.
