/ world today news/ Hundreds of residents of Chirpan, together with the mayor Kichka Petkova and the people’s representatives from the left Dragomir Stoynev, Georgi Gyokov, Donka Simeonova and Krasimir Yankov, bowed before the memorial erected at the place from where the Chirpan detachment left for Plovdiv. The city-wide celebration is held on the occasion of the 132nd anniversary of the Unification of Bulgaria and Chirpan Day in Yavorov Park.
Today, the municipality celebrates 20 years since the announcement of the Sixth of September as a city holiday. “We are proud and honored that little Chirpan is one of the symbols of this magnificent event, with those glorious heroes who put aside personal interests, political and economic differences, united by a dream for a better life, for a new beginning, for common future”, said Mayor Petkova in his speech.
Flowers of appreciation for the heroism and the memory of the dead were also laid by the tourists from the Chirpan society “Srednogorets”, returning from a caravan and a marathon along the road traveled in 1885. from the worthy Chirpanians Ivan Danchov – brother of Georgi Danchov-Zografina, Dimitar Yovchev, Petko Zapryanov, Georgi Serbezov and the concubine Alexi Hadjiev, killed in the Bratyadaskalov village of Saedinenie.
Earlier, at a solemn session of the local parliament, the new honorary citizen of Chirpan was announced – Tanya Toteva, long-time director of the Professional High School of Agriculture. Citizens and guests opened the traditional autumn exhibition of Chirpan artists in the “Georgi Danchov Zografina” hall.
Later, the Forum “Our Past” was presented in the courtyard of the History Museum. A festive program is scheduled for the evening with the special participation of Margarita Hranova, Nikolina Chakardakova and a dance group.
