POS-KUPANG.COM, MAUMARE – People with HIV/AIDS from Sikka Kabupaten County reached 1,000 cases dominated by 621 men and 379 women.
This deadly infectious disease began to be recorded cumulatively by the Sikka Aids Management Commission (KPA) since 2003.
Secretary KPA SikkaYohanes Siga explains that the most common source of transmission is behavior change partnersincluding using the services of commercial sex workers (CSWs).
“Everyone has potential, when change partnersoften use sex workers, and other risky relationships,” said Yohanes in his office, Thursday, July 14, 2022.
May 2022, KPA Sikka recorded 35 new cases of them, 13 HIV positive and 22 others were exposed to AIDS.
To suppress the rate of transmission of this disease, continued Yohanes, KPA Sikka has intensively carried out interaction and education communication (IEC) and formed a small organization called Warga Peduli Aids.
“We have formed a small organization to educate the community with the initial operational costs being borne by KPA Sikka. In the future we ask the village government to finance the Citizen Cares Aids organization,” Yohanes hoped.
In addition, continued Yohanes, the focus of IEC would be to provide an open space for the public to obtain free medicines for people living with the HIV virus after the examination.
