“Not giving us a license is discrimination,” “the driving school with LESSA (Salvadoran Sign Language) instruction needs to be established,” were some of the slogans raised by this population group. What they are looking for is that there is a procedure to allow them a driver’s license to have the right to develop “an autonomous life.”
People with hearing disabilities remembered Nayib Bukele’s first day in office, where he used sign languages in his inauguration speech; as a form of inclusion of this population group; However, there have been no policies in his favor.
The deputy for the VAMOS party, Claudia Ortiz, received them so that they could present their problems. VAMOS said that they will review and put together the draft bill and then hold a meeting with representatives of this sector to present it to the Legislative Assembly as a piece of correspondence.
