In thirteen days in the Czech Republic, voluntary testing for the public starts. But a positive test would be bad news for the family budget. According to the Labor Code, a person receives only sixty percent of the total wage for sick pay.
Newly, people with coronavirus would have their entire earnings left in their wallets. “Family budgets are tight, so it is necessary to guard every crown. By replacing the entire wage, the resistance to testing could decrease,” says economist Štěpán Křeček.
In addition, employees should receive money from the Antivirus program, which is primarily used to replace wages for people from closed businesses. The support of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Jana Maláčová (ČSSD) is important.
“I am in favor, I proposed it in October. The Labor Code and the Antivirus program need to be amended. If there is the political will, the intention can be realized in a matter of days,” Maláčová agrees.
“We want people to have a 100% salary, but at the same time we want the difference to be paid by the state,” said Tomio Okamura, chairman of the SPD movement.
“In my opinion, the proposal is unsystematic and unjust, people who have covid will receive far more money than people who have other diseases,” said MEP Jiří Pospíšil (TOP 09).
According to the Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (for YES), the cabinet also wants to make a financial contribution to companies that voluntarily test employees.
