Danilov: people who prepared the Budapest Memorandum are getting in the way with proposals for negotiations
The initiators of the Budapest Memorandum, which disarmed our country and eventually led to today’s war, are now offering Ukraine ideas for security guarantees. This may end for them with an article on treason.
This was stated by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov on the air of the telethon (To watch the video, scroll to the bottom of the page).
He stressed that Ukraine today needs to carefully monitor the possible provision of security guarantees by the so-called Israeli model, so that “it does not happen the way it happened with the memorandum that was prepared in 1994.”
Danilov stressed that Israel has nuclear weapons, while Ukraine “taken them away for free.” Therefore, such a model will again leave our country unprotected. And those who offer it are traitors to Ukraine, and she will not forgive them for this.
“I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the people who prepared the memorandum in 1994 are still getting under their feet in some processes and are also offering us certain things. Dear “friends”, we are monitoring all your processes very carefully, you need to stop doing this fool. Because the country will not forgive you for this,” Danilov said.
According to him, if they continue to offer Ukraine some kind of nonsense, then this “may end up very dangerously for them, 111 articles (on treason – Ed.), which no one has canceled for anyone.”
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council did not name specific names, he only specified that these people have diplomatic status. They are trying to negotiate “behind the backs of the Ukrainian people.”
“Lavrov met in the USA with those people who are now not related to politics in Washington, but have a desire to influence something, communicated with them. Keep in mind that we also have people who pretend that they can decide something on behalf of the Ukrainian people,” Danilov added.
Recall that at the time of gaining independence, Ukraine had the third largest arsenal of nuclear weapons in the world.
After the signing of the Budapest Memorandum in 1994, Ukraine renounced the status of a nuclear state, and the United States, Russia and Great Britain (later China and France joined them) in exchange provided guarantees of sovereignty and territorial integrity to Kiev. As history has shown, these guarantees turned out to be fictitious.
As OBOZREVATEL reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Ukraine needs real security guarantees until it becomes a member of NATO.
Earlier, Zelensky voiced his expectations from the NATO summit in Vilnius.
Lithuanian leader Nausėda assured that Ukraine at the summit in Vilnius could receive such commitments that would not disappoint it.
