People were lied to that there would be no deployment of military equipment in Bulgaria –

/ world today news/ Tales of reforms are less and less convincing after 8 months of fruitless efforts

“The talks of the rulers about reforms are less and less convincing after 8 months of fruitless efforts in individual sectors. The government’s course towards supposed reforms, widely advertised in the media, continues, while at the same time pursuing extreme right-wing policies”. This is how the BSP chairman Mikhail Mikov outlined the political situation in recent months at today’s meeting of the party’s National Council. According to him, there is instability in the governing coalition and it is increasingly clear that the government relies on votes from parties that do not officially participate in the government.

People were lied to about the deployment of heavy military equipment in Bulgaria

Mikov stated that there have been many statements that there will be no deployment of heavy military equipment and that nothing has been agreed, but today it is obvious that the Bulgarian citizens have been lied to. “It has been repeatedly claimed that the 16 billion loan will not be used for armaments. Voices are already being heard about betting serious budgets for the purchase of military equipment”, the leader of the BSP also said.

The electricity price saga shows the unchanged nature of today’s governance

According to Mikhail Mikov, the saga with the price of electricity gives the clearest expression of the unchanged essence of today’s government. He recalled statements of the rulers at the beginning of the year that the increase in the price of electricity cannot be a reform and the deficit must be reduced. “Not much was done to reduce the deficit, and now the only solution lies in increasing electricity prices,” explained the chairman of the BSP. According to him, there is no talk of shrinking the deficit by developing the “Belene” project, but at the same time it is constantly being said that it weighs and forms a large part of the NEC deficit. “Well, let’s find a solution to develop this project so that it provides a future for our nuclear energy”, said Mikov.

We will stand up for the progressive tax at all costs

Mikov noted an increase in the number of left-leaning legislative initiatives and gave the progressive income tax initiative as an example. “We will continue to defend it at the cost of everything”, he was categorical. On the topic of education, the leader of the BSP called on the MPs from the group to continue their active participation in rejecting the right-wing decisions in education – reduced funds and redistribution of money to private schools as well. He outlined a similar situation in health care, where despite the consistent efforts of the parliamentary group, a bill was passed that mechanically isolates large groups of people from the health care system. “Just for the period from 2009 to today, the amount of funds that go to private medical facilities has doubled, which in no way increases the level of access for citizens,” Mikov was categorical. He also recalled the alternative solution of the left for the pension reform, related to overcoming the deficit of the National Social Insurance Institution and a fairer attitude towards distributing the burden on the social security system.

Regarding the judicial system, Mikov stated that the proposed changes to the constitution have the sole purpose of strengthening the influence of the ruling coalition in the judiciary and this will lead to the encapsulation of the individual segments in it, and no one indicates where the public is in this whole process.

According to the leader of the left, holding a referendum together with the local elections will create difficulties both during the campaign, purely informational because of the many issues on which the voter must take a stand, and during the voting time and reporting of the election results. He added that with the local elections, the BSP supports the holding of local referendums, which are related to important issues for the local community, such as the cases in Pernik, Gabrovo, Kardzhali.

In an internal party plan, Mikhail Mikov stated that the number of party members with electronic membership cards has tripled, which enables better communication and organization, and 47 conferences have been completed. He stated that the sociological researches in recent months give different results, but the BSP maintains its positions, while at the same time GERB shows a clear tendency to decrease its positions, which, according to him, is due not only to the non-participation of the left in the government, but also of the promotion of left politics by BSP LEFT BULGARIA. “I think that this is the right path and we should continue on it,” Mikov was categorical.

Today’s meeting of the BSP National Council began with the congratulation of the plenum members to the re-elected PES President Sergey Stanishev, as well as with the screening of a film related to his nomination and election campaign.

The agenda of today’s meeting includes the adoption of the pre-election platform of the BSP for the local elections.
