People responded to Rūta Meilutytė’s invitation with like-minded people: they carried and planted a mountain for fallen Ukrainian soldiers in Vingios Park with their own hands

This week, the organizers of the idea invited people to come to Vingis Park and pour water on the mountain together, and then plant it with flowers.

“The poured mountain is a symbol of death, but also of rebirth, because when planted and blooming it becomes the embodiment of unity, love and humanity. We invite you to pour and plant the mountain together, thus honoring all those who died in the war, all those buried in nameless mass graves, all those whose lives were taken away. This ritual is not only about the dead, it is also about us, the living. In a process that requires great communion, you will find space for closeness, kindness, humanity and the possibility of rebirth.

In this immersive performance, the time and dedication of everyone involved is especially important. We invite you to participate as long as possible, because patience, endurance, the rhythm of monotonous action and a contemplative state are the essence of the process,” they urged.

It was announced that the event will take place every day from 9 am to 9 pm until the solidarity mountain is completely filled and planted. We didn’t have to wait long – on Saturday evening, the mountain was already filled and planted with flowers.

At first, the authors of the idea wanted to hold this performance in Ukraine, but in the end they had to abandon this idea.

“Although this performance was supposed to be created together with the Ukrainians in Kyiv, due to the increased danger to civilians and the incessant Russian bombings, we decided to move the performance to Vilnius. As Russia invades Ukraine, many people are dying and suffering every day in the war. Aggression, violence, injustice and loss cloud faith in humanity. We experience collective guilt, uncertainty, disbelief, mourning and disappointment. We invite you to stay together and bury the bodies of pain in the process of embanking the mountain,” they said.

Participants of the initiative were also invited to contribute to the support of Ukraine in a financial way. The collected funds will be allocated to foundations that provide humanitarian aid.
