More than 35% of people in Germany can no longer easily make a living, according to a report in a survey. According to the results of the survey, concerns about financial problems had increased significantly within a few months. Approximately every seventh person would have to take out a loan “with a high degree of probability”, otherwise it would no longer be possible to maintain a living.
People in Germany with financial worries
“More than every third German (38 percent) says they will find it increasingly difficult to make a living. This is the result of a survey commissioned by the credit agency Schufa, about which the “Welt am Sonntag” reports.
As a result, concerns about financial problems have increased significantly in just a few months. As recently as January of this year, only about every fourth citizen shared the fear of costs that could no longer be borne. About one in seven people will also “very likely” have to take out a loan in order to be able to maintain their standard of living. Just as many stated that they had already borrowed money from relatives or friends.
And almost a quarter of those surveyed have overdrawn their account due to the current situation. 1,000 people were interviewed for the survey in May. In this context, the Federal Ministry of Consumer Protection wants to strengthen debtor and insolvency advice. It is expected that one million euros will be spent on this annually, as the ministry announced when asked by “Welt am Sonntag”.
However, it is said that these funds are not yet available. The Bundestag is still deliberating on the supplementary budget for this year. However, there is already an exchange with other departments and the interest groups of the debt counseling service in order to prepare appropriate funding projects.
