The average age of corona patients in intensive care continues to decline. The largest group now consists of people in their fifties (26.1 percent), while in March and April mainly people in their seventies were in the ICUs. This is evident from data from the National Intensive Care Evaluation (Nice), which the AD has requested.
According to chairman Diederik Gommers of the Dutch Intensive Care Association, the figures show that vaccination has an effect. “You can already see an effect after the first injection. The patients you get in the hospital and on the ICU in May are the people who have not been vaccinated.” Professor of Medical Informatics Nicolette de Keizer of the Amsterdam UMC agrees: “The figures speak for themselves. The age groups that have been vaccinated have a much lower chance of entering the ICU and hospital than groups that have not yet been vaccinated. “
The Nice Foundation, which provided the figures, expects the results to win vaccine doubts. “You will not convince the so-called wappies, but doubters will be sensitive to the fact that now in practice it appears that the injection works”, says chairman Dave Dongelmans in the AD.
