People from Groningen have lost all faith in government: ‘Agreements about gas extraction are possible with Germany, but not with us’

We are only in the first week of January when there is yet another new topic showing that the ‘new administrative culture’ is an outright lie. The cabinet is going to increase gas extraction in Groningen, because they have made agreements with Germany. It is very unfortunate that the agreement with Groningen residents to reduce gas extraction cannot be complied with, because ‘a deal is a deal’!

It is impossible to explain to the people of Groningen that gas extraction is simply being increased again. Germany got itself in trouble by making a fuss about the Russian Nordstream-2 pipeline. In addition, the country wants to dismantle its own nuclear power plants. Suddenly there is a shortage of gas and the Netherlands is obliged to supply that gas to Germany. Groningen will tremble again, because the agreements made in our own country no longer apply!

The cabinet does not even seem to have made an attempt to ask Germans to get the gas from elsewhere. Also, apparently no one has been informed about the fact that this agreement still applies. Apparently no attempt was made to get out of that agreement with the Germans. The Groningers are just very unlucky, they notice according to The Telegraph. And the Dutch state probably too, because it will soon be able to spend a large part of the gas revenues on restoration work and damage claims.

A call from the editors: DDS, like many other websites, is having a very difficult time due to the corona crisis. We want to keep everything readable for everyone for free, so that we depend on advertising for our income. But companies have financial concerns, so they don’t have much to worry about. We also notice the consequences of this. Hence our appeal to you, our readers: please support us! Through the reliable Dutch BackMe system you can donate monthly or once. Please do, and help DDS stay afloat!

So it is yet another incompetent bumbling that the Dutch state, the cabinet and the citizen bear the brunt of. Half a province is now drawing the conclusion that the Dutch government cannot be trusted and the rest of the country can’t blame them either. The cabinet itself doesn’t get much further than ‘shit for you, man’. And the people of Groningen do not have to count on the fact that this problem with gas extraction will soon pass for Germany, because the issues with gas deliveries can still take a while persist.
