The Antwerp police arrested a few people from Brabant on Wednesday evening after two fights in the city. Two of the Brabant suspects come from Breda, one from Eindhoven and a number from Deurne, the Belgian police reported.
In total, twelve Dutch and a number of Belgians were arrested. The Antwerp police speak of ‘drunks who fought each other’s hair’.
Young people fighting each other
The arrests took place on the Grote Markt and the Vlaamsekaai. The groups of youths clashed with each other.
One of the youths was injured and taken to hospital. When the police took action, the rioters also became aggressive towards the officers.
Possible fines
The suspect was arrested under ‘administrative condition’. This means that the police will release them again when they no longer pose a threat. One Dutchman was released around eleven o’clock. The rest at six the next morning.
The rioters do not get a record on the criminal record. They may be fined.
