Fuel retailers report the harvest. Gas has become extremely expensive and people are buying large coal, considered a less environmentally friendly fuel. However, due to the ban on its imports from Russia, which will come into force in August, it is expected to increase in price and shortage. The sellers themselves already have a problem with buying, according to them, coal is increasingly difficult to find and the price is going up.
Fuel retailers are now recording interest as before the start of the heating season. “People shop in smaller quantities, but more often, which of course does not pay off for transport,” says Pavel Vágner, warehouse manager in northern Bohemia. “Just yesterday, we had four customers switching from gas to coal again to save household costs,” describes Martin Křížek, a coal salesman from Šternberk.
“Every month I give 3,200 crowns for a coal cart and I’m satisfied. I’m half the price of gas. I’ve covered 45,000 with gas, now it costs 22,000,” says one customer.
Some people are reopening old boilers as insurance. The government has extended the possibility of using the least organic ones by two years. “The original coke and coal boiler is a kind of reserve for me in the future. They are not yet sure where we will get more gas from,” explains a customer from Prague.
“I ordered coke, I pushed for three months to get one here at all. By the time I had the price confirmed and ordered it, in three days I got a call from the supplier that the price was rising by thirty percent.” describes his experience Jindřich Janda, CEO of Janda & Červ.
From brown coal, customers are most interested in the so-called walnut 2, which is used, for example, in automatic boilers. Currently, they pay about 250 crowns for the bag, but a year ago it was fifty crowns less. However, even with its availability, according to the sellers, it is starting to be a problem, it is said that it is aimed primarily at industry. “My van for this month is the last. I won’t get another one next month,” admits Janda.
Briquette is also in short supply. Interest in other alternatives has also risen. “Firewood, fireplace briquettes, coal briquettes for the fireplace, it’s all ecological fuel that meets the most demanding requirements,” explains the seller.
Over 2,500 crowns are now paid for a cube of oak wood, for example, at the beginning of the year it was 300 crowns less.
The use of coal in the Czech Republic should be extended, said economist Lukáš Kovanda:
