Pentagon: The attack on Kabul Airport was carried out by one suicide bomber

The Pentagon on Friday corrected information about the previous day’s attack at Kabul airport, announcing that there had been one explosion and one suicide, instead of two as previously reported.

“We don’t think there was a second explosion at or near the Baron Hotel, there was one suicide bomber,” said General Hank Taylor.

So far, it was reported that at Kabul airport there have been two explosions – One at the gate and one at a nearby hotel.

The Pentagon also said new attacks could be targeted at the evacuation operation, similar to Thursdays.

“We still believe there are credible threats, concrete, credible threats,” said John Curby, a Pentagon spokesman.

At least 85 people, including 13 US soldiers, were killed in Thursday’s attack near Kabul airport.

The Islamic State terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the bombings.

With the withdrawal of the US and other foreign military contingents from Afghanistan, the Taliban launched a general offensive operation this month and quickly seized almost the entire territory of the country, but on August 15, Kabul fell into their hands.

Taliban control alone has not come under Taliban control, where Taliban opponents have established a center of resistance to the radical Islamist regime.-
