WASHINGTON DC, KOMPAS.com – A Pentagon spokesman suddenly became emotional on Friday (29/4/2022) when he denounced Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “depravedness” in Ukraine.
He questions how any moral person can defend the bombing and brief execution of innocent people.
Reported from AFPJohn Kirby, a former US Navy admiral who has briefed reporters on camera five days a week since the war began on February 24, briefly lost his cool.

At that time he spoke about the atrocities being committed in Ukraine.
“It’s hard to look at what he’s doing in Ukraine, what his troops are doing there, and think that any ethical and moral individual can justify that,” Kirby stammered.
At that time he was asked how the US government assesses the mental condition of the Russian leader.
“I can’t talk to his psychology. But, I think we can all talk about his depravity,” he said.

Kirby, spokesperson for the State Department in 2015-2017 and for the Department of Defense since early 2021, is known for his fluid, knowledgeable, fact-packed answers to journalists.
He avoids hyperbole and is disciplined for not telling more than the truth.
Since President Joe Biden’s administration decided late last year that Russia was planning to invade Ukraine, Kirby has been the government’s main public envoy in the conflict.
However, he was suddenly at a loss for words, looked gloomy, and dejected as he contemplated the two months of war.

He then apologized for the rare expression of emotion.
“I didn’t want to be like this. But I’ve been in the military for a very long time, and I know friends who didn’t make it back. It’s been tough,” Kirby said.
