Airstrikes using random aircraft (drone) The United States (US) is said to have killed two frontmen ISIS of Afghanistan.
In a statement on Saturday (28/8), the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) said in addition to the deaths of the two leaders, a number of other militants were injured. However, it is claimed that no civilians were injured in the attack on Saturday morning.
The airstrike came two days after Thursday’s suicide bombing at Kabul Airport, Afghanistan, killed a number of people including 13 US servicemen. However, the Pentagon declined to clarify whether the people targeted by the US airstrike were those directly involved with the suicide bombing at the airport.
“They are ISIS-K planners and facilitators. That’s reason enough [untuk serangan udara],” said Pentagon spokesman John Kirby as quoted from AFP.
“The fact that these two individuals are no longer walking the surface of the earth is a good thing,” he added.
Citizens’ Testimony on the Air Strike
Some residents of the provincial capital of Nangarhar, Jalalabad, said they heard several explosions from an air strike in the early hours of Saturday. However, some are unsure whether it was an air strike by the US.
The elder of the community in Jalalabad, Malik Adib, said at least three were killed and four injured in the air strike. Adib also explained that the Taliban had come to see and investigate the incident.
“Women and children are among the victims,” said Adib, who admitted that he had no information regarding the identity of the victim.
Meanwhile a senior commander in the Taliban said several ISIS-K members had been arrested in connection with the attack in Kabul.
“They have been interrogated by our intelligence team,” he said.
However, a Taliban spokesman has so far declined to provide official comment on the airstrikes.
