WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Pentagon has overstated the value of equipment sent by the United States to Ukraine by $3 billion, a Senate adviser and defense official said on Thursday.
Two senior US defense officials said on Thursday the value of equipment from US stockpiles sent to Ukraine had been overstated.
“We have discovered inconsistencies in the estimate of the value of the equipment supplied” to Ukraine, one of the officials told Reuters.
Congress was notified of the accounting adjustments on Thursday, the sources said.
The official also said it was possible that the amount of equipment overstatement could increase, as the Pentagon conducts a thorough review of the matter.
