The Pentagon took into account the experience of using the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the Russian army of bomber drones. According to Defense One, the leadership of the defense department decided to equip the US army with them.
Details
Army Applications Laboratory received an order to develop “small lethal UAVs.” This laboratory was established in 2018. Its main task is to find commercial developments that can be effectively used on the battlefield.
The request notes that UAV bombers have proved useful on the front lines. In the future, they may become a common tool in infantry equipment. Drones developed by the laboratory must meet the following criteria:
- Inclusion in the Blue UAS list (the list of drones verified by the Pentagon).
- The presence of an ammunition dump system.
- UAV integration with ATAK Android applet.
- Powerful ammo (more powerful than the M67 Frag Grenade)
The US DoD request specifically stipulates the inadmissibility of using the WingtraOne VTOL drone as an UAV bomber.
The reasons for the inadmissibility are not specified in the document. By the way, the Blue UAS list includes the DJI Mavic 3 quadrocopter, which is actively used by the Ukrainian military.
