The Pentagon confirmed on Wednesday that it had carried out an air strike on a facility in eastern Syria.
The Pentagon confirmed that “US forces carried out a strike in self-defense on a facility in eastern Syria.”
He pointed out that “the American strikes targeted facilities used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the groups it supports.”
He explained that the strike came “in response to attacks by militants affiliated with the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on American forces in Iraq and Syria.”
The Pentagon stated that “the strike was carried out by two American F-15 aircraft against a weapons storage facility.”
He stressed that “the United States is fully prepared to take further necessary measures to protect our people and our facilities.”
The US Department of Defense did not indicate the outcome of the air strike.
For its part, the Syrian Observatory reported on Wednesday that “unidentified aircraft” targeted “military headquarters and a weapons depot on Port Said Street, next to the automated bakery in the city of Deir ez-Zor.”
The director of the observatory, Rami Abdel Rahman, told Agence France-Presse that the American raid caused the death of nine workers “on behalf of pro-Iranian groups who were killed in American raids on sites used by pro-Iranian groups, including military sites and a weapons depot” in the city of Deir ez-Zor.
From time to time, the United States carried out retaliatory strikes on Iranian-backed forces in the region after they attacked American forces.
On October 26, US forces targeted two facilities used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the groups it supports.
American forces in the Middle East are facing an escalation in attacks against the backdrop of the war between Israel and Hamas, which broke out after the movement carried out an unprecedented attack from Gaza on October 7, which Israeli officials say killed more than 1,400 people.
Israel responded by bombing the Gaza Strip, killing more than 10,000 people, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health.
About 2,500 American soldiers are deployed in Iraq and about 900 in Syria as part of a coalition against ISIS.
