Pensions will be higher, and the reason may be surprising. Retirement, check how much you will gain [2.04.2022]

The average life expectancy in Poland has fallen again compared to the previous year – according to the tables of life expectancy for women and men published by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS). A higher mortality rate translates into higher pension amounts. – As a result of excess deaths, we have moved back to the levels of 2003 in terms of life expectancy – comments the expert.

According to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) – the forecast average length of life in Poland, compared to the previous year, it fell again. For 60-year-olds it is 238.9 months (almost 20 years – editor’s note). In turn, for 65-year-olds it is 196.2 months (over 16.3 years – editorial note).

If we compare these results with 2020, it turns out that two years ago the average projected life expectancy for a person aged 60 years was 261.5 months (almost 21.8 years – editor’s note), and for a 65-year-old it was 217.6 months (over 18 years – ed.).

Higher pensions from July 2022. How much will i …

– For the second time in a row, there has been a decrease in the average life expectancy in all age groups, which is taken into account by the latest GUS tables – says Iwona Kowalska-Matis, the regional press spokesman for the Social Insurance Institution in Lower Silesia.

– The new GUS tables show that the life expectancy of people reaching the retirement age decreased in 2021 by another 8-9 months – from 2020 in total by almost 2 years. As a result of excess deaths, we have moved back to the levels of 2003 in terms of life expectancy, commented Łukasz Kozłowski, Chief Economist of the Federation of Polish Entrepreneurs.

Life expectancy tables and the amount of the old-age pension

– In order to calculate the amount of the future old-age pension, one should divide the amount of contributions accumulated on the ZUS account by the average life expectancy. In the table it is expressed in months. The higher the numerator and the smaller the denominator of this mathematical operation, the higher its result, i.e. the amount of the pension, will be – explains Kowalska-Matis.
