Poitiers had not experienced such mobilization for years. On January 19, more than 10,000 people demonstrated against the pension reform planned by the government. Four participants testify for Le 7.
Pierre Poulin, 42, storekeeper
“I started working when I was 24 or 25. Without the reform, I have to leave at 63. There, with the rule of 42 annuities, that pushes me up to 68 years… It’s a little abused, I don’t want to die at work. I already see colleagues leaving at the end of their tether. Every day, I carry a ton and a half of equipment. For the moment, I’m living it well, but between now and my 60th birthday… We have to find something else, so that everyone makes an effort. I tell my 7 and a half year old son that he has to study to do the job he wants, but if it’s to start working around 25 and retire even later, better not start working as soon as possible? This reform is unfair. »
Caroline Richard, 51 ans, informaticienne
“If you have to work more, no problem, I can understand. But I aspire to do it in good conditions, which is not the case today. At Social Security, there are fewer and fewer of us for ever more work. I had a burn-out a few years ago, I believe that one does not work to make oneself sick. In my entourage, there are divergent opinions, the youngest do not necessarily feel concerned by the reform. But I’m also thinking of my daughters who will have very long careers… We shouldn’t go that far on the legal age. One could imagine that the internships count for annuities, any type of work must make it possible to earn quarters in my opinion. »
Sébastien Venin, 39, electrician
“Many people think that employees in the electricity and gas industries (IEG) leave between the ages of 55 and 57. But that actually only concerns 20% of the workforce, who are on active or unhealthy service. On average, people leave at the age of 62.9. We do not understand why they want to abolish our special plan, especially since it is surplus. This will not change anything, except that the arrival at retirement is extended, from 62 to 64 for me. A quarter of the people, the most precarious, will go straight to the cemetery, while the others will continue to work with health problems… I am a night shift technician and when I see 57-year-olds working, I wonder. say it will be complicated. »
Karine Doux, 52, caregiver
“With a full career, I am entitled to a three-year extension. Rather than at 55, I will therefore leave at 58. I work at night in nursing homes, we are 3 caregivers for 136 residents. We are already working to the maximum of the maximum so if it ends up being completely broken physically… Or else we will need a bonus for the walker, because we will be in pain everywhere! I want this reform removed. Our salaries should also be increased, because with the increase in fuel, food… After a while, we will have to find the money! »
