Following a consultation with the Minister of Pensions Karine Lalieux (PS), the employers’ organizations VBO, Unizo, UCM and Boerenbond have indicated that they are concerned about the pension reform project, in preparation for the federal government. “The proposals on the table tend to promote non-work and increase pension spending“, they said in a statement.
Me. Lalieux invited the employers’ organizations of the Group of Ten on Wednesday to “exchange of views on pension reform“the organizations said in a joint communication Thursday.
They themselves believe that such a reform is absolutely necessary to encourage citizens to work until the age of 67, and to ensure the affordability of pensions. However, “employers’ organizations regret that the proposals on the table tend to promote non-work and increase retirement expenses“, they explain.
Among the measures denounced are in particular the increase in minimum pensions (already voted), the reduction in the number of working years required to have access to it, the relaxation of the conditions of early retirement and the introduction of ” a supplemental early retirement scheme.
Encourage people to work longer
According to employers, it is in fact necessary “to assign a higher value to work in the amount of the pension“in order to encourage employees to work longer. They therefore want the government to encourage supplementary retirement”through financial incentives“and penalizes employees who take early retirement through”dissuasive measures“.
According to employers’ organizations, the combination of a statutory pension with a supplementary pension “lead to a sustainable, homogeneous and equitable pension system, which could possibly fit into the philosophy of a points system“. Such a system would have the advantage, in the eyes of the employers, of being self-piloted, because it includes automatic adjustment mechanisms according to economic and demographic developments.
