The penguins of Fishtown Bremerhaven

This Saturday, the Fischtown Pinguins will head south for their away tour. On Sunday, the Augsburg Panthers will host the eleventh game of the Penny-DEL. The start of the game is at 19:00. Both opponents were able to register a win yesterday. While we were able to move up to third place in the standings with a 4: 2 win, Augsburg is in 11th place in the standings after a 5: 4 home win against late Iserlohn. In the previous season, the Panthers were able to celebrate four wins and had to leave the ice as underdogs five times.

After the Panthers finished 11th in the standings last season, they are now hoping for an improvement in the standings with Scot Peter Russell. He led the Ravensburg Towerstars to the DEL2 final last season and had to admit defeat with his Frankfurt side. Dennis Endras returned from Mannheim to Fuggerstadt after eleven years in goal and replaced Olivier Roy as first choice goalkeeper. However, he is currently injured and will be replaced by Markus Keller and young Moritz Borst. In defense, along with Scott Valentine, top scorer Jesse Graham also left the club for KHL. David Warsofsky was brought in from Ingolstadt to replace the strong defender. Mirko Sacher was signed by Krefeld who is relegated. Otherwise, the defense relies on experts Brady Lamb, Henry Haase and Wade Bergmann, as well as Slovenian Blaz Gregorc, signed last season.

In the Augusta attack, eight players left the club after the season. Two dangerous outsiders, Terry Broadhurst and Adam Johnson, were brought in by the AHL. With the Canadian Ryan Kufner of the ECHL, a winger has been hired, who has already played for Ingolstadt in the 2020/2021 season and has been able to convince. With Swede Sebastian Wännstöm, another winger arrived at Augsburg, who played for Riga in the KHL last season and was the last on the ice with HC Ajoie. Otherwise, manager Peter Russell has strong attacking players like Drew LeBlanc, Matt Puempel, Adam Payerl and Michael Clarke at his disposal, who can make a difference in some games. In the current season, the panthers are related to our penguins with a power play rate of 23 percent. Outnumbered, however, the value is only 71 percent, which means 13th place in the stats.

There will be some changes in our Fischtown Pinguins in upcoming away games. Defender Vladimir Eminger traveled to his native Czech Republic for personal reasons and is expected to return to Seestadt on Wednesday. Gregory Kreutzer will take his place alongside Philip Samuelsson. Niklas Andersen will also not make the journey south. As a precaution, he was hospitalized after yesterday’s game and will miss the two away matches. Skyler McKenzie, who had to take to the stands in the match against Düsseldorf, will take his place. Otherwise, the team can play unchanged, with the exception of coach Thomas Popiesch, Brandon Maxwell can take a break after his recent strong performances and put Maximilian Franzreb in the goal.

The team will remain in the south, as the difficult away match of matchday 12 at Schwenninger Wild Wings is already on Tuesday. The kick-off bully in the Black Forest is at 7:30 pm in the Helios Arena.
