As part of the concert tour to promote their new album “Rain Before Seven…”, the British group “Penguin Cafe” will visit the “Cēsis” Concert Hall on Friday, December 8, whose instrumental compositions are characterized by contemporary minimalism and chamber music sound aesthetics.
The group “Penguin Cafe” visited the Baltics for the first time in December 2018, and for the second time in early 2020 – both concerts took place in Cēsis. “We are happy to return to Cēsis – we have always had such a great time here with our listeners. This will be our last concert this year, so we really hope that it will be special and great!”, says the leader of “Penguin Cafe” Artur Jeffs about the return to Cēsis.
The title of Penguin Cafe’s fifth studio album “Rain Before Seven…” (rain before seven – trans.) is borrowed from an ancient belief in omens, the second part of which “clear sky by eleven” predicts a happy ending, no matter what that should be said to science. “I read it in a book – I’d never heard a saying like that before,” reveals Jeffs, “There’s an easy-to-upbeat touch to this saying and I have to say I like it. Nobody uses it these days, but in general, this observation describes quite well the weather picture of England influenced by the Atlantic Ocean.
“From the very first track ‘Welcome to London’ with its playful reference to Ennio Morricone’s film music, to its solution ‘Goldfinch Yodel’, described by the ‘penguins’ themselves as a joyous dance around the May tree, throughout the album you can smell a cheerful hope with an exotic rhythmic current of bubbling energy ,” is how music critics describe the album. We hope that our listeners will also be able to appreciate it.
