Peng Liyuan Visits UNESCO Headquarters to Promote Girls’ and Women’s Education

Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping and UNESCO’s special representative for girls’ and women’s education, visited the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on Monday morning.

Upon her arrival, UNESCO Director General, Audrey Azoulay greeted her at the entrance. Azoulay accompanied Peng for a tour of the exhibition “Ten Years of Cooperation between China and UNESCO” and praised China’s contribution to the development of girls’ and women’s education around the world.

During her meeting with Azoulay, Peng briefly mentioned China’s recent progress in improving education for girls and women, particularly the achievements of the Spring Bud Project.

Peng said during her 10 years as UNESCO Special Envoy for Girls and Women’s Education, she visited schools in many countries. She is happy to see that more and more women have been able to change their destiny and lead a happy life through education. Advancing the education of girls and women is a major concern related to social progress and the future of humanity.

China is ready to work with UNESCO to encourage more investment in the education of girls and women around the world so that more women have equal rights to education and a better future, said Peng Liyuan.
