Pemex signs agreement with Carso for 2 billion dollars to extract gas in the Gulf

With an investment of nearly 2 billion dollars, Petróleo Mexicanos signed an agreement with the company Carso for the extraction of gas from platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, located on the coast of the state of Veracruz, which were “abandoned” by previous administrations, which will allow their rescue, said President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“They left behind gas product platforms. They had buried around 2 billion dollars, and we were very worried about that, but fortunately we were able to sign an agreement with the Carso company. They are going to invest around 1,500, 2 billion dollars, and they are going to rescue those facilities, which otherwise would have stayed there and become scrap metal, with an investment of around 2 billion dollars from the previous administration.”

At a press conference at the National Palace, he confirmed that an agreement was also signed in Poza Rica, Veracruz, to start up a fertilizer plant, since there is land where an oil complex was previously located, so, he assured, “there is ammonia to produce fertilizers, there is water, the land and the pipelines, and a very good work is going to be done.”

He explained that although his administration manages to deliver one million tons of fertilizers to two million farmers, “more is needed, that is why this project will help us a lot, and I hope that the project is withdrawn, because there is also an abandoned plant in Camargo, Chihuahua, that can be converted into a plant to produce fertilizers, and another in Sinaloa.”

He added that another of Pemex’s projects is the use of gas in the Cantarel oil field, which was considered one of the most important in the world, but was “irrationally managed, they used it up in a very short time.” All that gas will be used, he explained, and “that project will be put out to tender and will help a lot, these are pending issues.”

López Obrador also reported that there are more than 15 infrastructure projects that he still has to inaugurate before the end of his term on September 30, which include the inauguration of highway sections, naval bases, hospitals, aqueducts and irrigation systems, among others.
