Mexico City. Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) exported 779 thousand barrels per day in July 2024, a figure that translated into a drop of 25.95 percent compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the state-owned company.
According to oil statistics, exports in the seventh month were less than the 900,000 barrels per day that had averaged in the first two months of the year.
In July, the oil company stopped exporting 273 thousand barrels of crude oil per day, compared to the 1.05 million barrels reported in the same period last year.
However, Pemex sent more crude oil abroad compared to June, as the data for the seventh month meant an increase of 25 thousand barrels per day or 3.31 percent.
In the reference period, exports totaled two consecutive periods with a level above 700 thousand barrels per day, after reaching 911 thousand barrels per day in May. In March and April they were at the lowest levels, being above 600 thousand barrels per day.
On average, in the first seven months of the year, Pemex has sent 814 thousand barrels per day abroad, a figure that shows a drop of 219 barrels per day less or a decline of 21.20 percent.
From the sale of crude oil abroad, Pemex obtained 1.799 billion dollars in July, an amount that showed a decline of 23.67 percent compared to July 2023, when it reported revenues of 2.357 billion dollars.
Compared to June, the data for the seventh month showed an increase of 8.70 percent, as the average cost per barrel stood at 79.48 dollars.
The value of crude oil exports also shows a difference compared to July 2022, when the oil company earned revenues of 3.106 billion dollars. Therefore, the current data shows a drop of 42.07 percent compared to the seventh month of 2022.
On the other hand, Pemex did not report again the total amount of crude oil it extracted during July, so it only reported that during that period it extracted an average of 1,755,000 barrels of liquid hydrocarbons (crude oil plus condensates) per day, not counting partners, data that translated into a 0.51 percent monthly drop and a 4.35 percent annual drop.
Including private partners, Pemex produced 1,772,000 barrels of crude oil per day in the seventh month of the year, a figure that represented a decrease of 0.56 percent compared to June and 4.47 percent compared to July 2023.
With the July data, the state-owned company has been below 1.8 million barrels per day for four consecutive months and so far this year it has averaged 1.79 million barrels of crude oil, so it will not reach the goal of 2 million barrels per day at the beginning of the six-year term.
