Pemex buys less medicine despite Covid-19

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) punished the purchase of drugs for hospitals, clinics and medical offices.
In the months of May and June of this year, the oil company’s health services spent 11 million 403 thousand 333.67 pesos in the purchase of various products of this type, according to the purchase records obtained by EL UNIVERSAL, approximately 5.7 million monthly on average.
Pemex’s 6,931 health professionals used these products to serve 700,000 beneficiaries, including workers, retirees and family members in its two central hospitals, six regional, 13 general, in three clinic-hospitals, 11 clinics, 24 doctor’s offices and a medical unit of the Administrative Center in those two months.
In May and June 2019, in a normal situation, Pemex acquired drugs for 78 million 118 thousand 386.16 pesos, 6.8 times more than what it spent in the same two-month period of 2020, an average of 39 million per month.
That is, between the May-June 2019 and 2020 bimester there is a reduction in the purchase of this type of products of 85.4%, in a critical period due to Covid-19 this year.
Pemex saw the number of coronavirus suspects grow from 2,526 people in its environment from May 1, 2020, to 11,448 as of June 30.
The number of confirmed oil workers, retirees and family members went from 381 to 3,194. And deaths increased from 46 to 559 in the same period.
The contracts
According to Pemex health services records, in May 2020 drugs were purchased for 5 million 815.6 thousand pesos, which were focused on Laboratorios PISA, with 5 million 183.2 thousand pesos. The remaining 632.4 thousand pesos were distributed between Asofarm, Investigation Pharmaceutical and Laboratorios Raam de Sahuayo.
For June, purchases fell to 5 million 587.6 thousand pesos and were made to 14 suppliers.
The main purchases were from PISA, with a value of one million 29.5 thousand pesos. Laboratorios Raam de Sahuayo delivered products for 780 thousand 593.75 pesos. Maver sold him 538,215.3 pesos in that month.
The oil company’s health services had been reporting drug purchases of between 38.2 million and 89.2 million pesos per month between August and November 2019.
In December of last year its value fell to 6 million 847 thousand pesos, and between January and April 2020 there is no data on the purchase of products.
Most of the drugs you buy are made in units with a high concentration of beneficiaries:
The Regional Hospital of Villahermosa, Tabasco, serves 47,851 beneficiaries, followed by the regional Minatitlán, with 45,324, and the Minatitlán Satellite, with 45 thousand 47.
Another 39 thousand 448 oil tankers are treated at the Satélite Poza Rica clinic; 37,766 are assigned to the Central North Hospital, and 31,335 to the Coatzacoalcos Hospital Clinic.
The oil company has subrogated the medical service for another 40,861 oil tankers, indicate figures from the Institutional System of Human Resources and Payroll.
