Under the slogan “Donate your ex’s stuffed animal and make a child happy”, the Coordination of Social Development of the Christopher Columbus University promotes the ´PelUCChetón´, a campaign to collect dolls of this nature for the benefit of the Calasanz Social Center.
In an interview with Galería, the teacher Rodrigo Garcés, from UCC Social Developmentshared details of the activity, which aims to deliver, within the framework of Children’s Day, stuffed animals to the more than 100 children of the aforementioned Calasancian space.
“Toys are always requested this season, but we wanted to do something different, a little more grounded in the university community to promote the participation of university students,” Garcés told Imagen de Veracruz.
He explained that the initiative arose among the students themselvesas well as the area of Psychology of the Christopher Columbus Universitywhich calls for donating new or in good condition stuffed animals, not broken or dirty, until April 21.
The collection, a couple of weeks after its start, reached 50 pieces received, which reflected the interest from the university community to participate in the Social Development activities of the UCC.
“Currently in the Calasanz Social Center cares for 110 children and our goal is to cover them” -Garcés affirmed- “If more come together, we are looking at some strategy to find another instance, such as the Pediatric Tower, that we can add; At this point I think it’s going pretty well and we’re going to achieve our goal.”
UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY has responded to the UCC Social Development initiative.
Invitation
It will be until April 21 when the reception of toys for the PelUCChetónfrom 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 4:00 to 7:00 pm within the UCC Social Development Coordination.
However, the days April 18 and 19they will be receiving directly in a stand which will be located on the Torrente Viver and Calasanz Campuses, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, for which the public is invited to participate in the donation.
On the other hand, Social Development will continue with its program of monthly activities, among which are the celebration of the Children’s Day at the Calasanz Campuswhere children of the Calasanz Social Center will enjoy a relative day accompanied by volunteers from the Christopher Columbus University and the Youth Groups of the Cristóbal Colón Study Center.
Also, list the official delivery of the collected stuffed animals for him PelUCChetónwhich will be held on May 5 and framed by activities for the benefited children, who will also receive school supplies in August, as part of the permanent campaigns of UCC Social Development.
“What we are looking for is university students have an approach with the Calasanz Social Centerwith the reality of children, because we seek to promote volunteering, which is not only collecting, but also inviting the university community in general,” he concluded.
