A New Kind of Strength: Peloton Launches Standalone Strength Training App

Women in their 30s and 40s are increasingly turning towards the iron, and it’s not just about aesthetics.

"In general, strength training and functional fitness are more popular," explains one fitness enthusiast. "But also, women between the ages of 30 and 50 lose about 3 to 8 percent of their muscle mass per year, and the drop in estrogen that happens during menopause can accelerate this. I no longer care about bulking up; I just don’t want to collapse in a rickety bag of bones when I’m 50."

This rising interest in weightlifting coincides beautifully with the launch of Peloton’s new Strength+ app.

The app, available exclusively for iOS devices, offers a focused strength-training experience separate from Peloton’s main app. For a limited time, introductory memberships are priced at a mere $1 per month for the first six months, after which the price bumps up to $10 per month. This new offering is also included free of charge for existing All Access, Guide, and App+ members.

Designed especially for gymnasium settings, Strength+ offers a streamlined user experience. Users can choose from a variety of workout options, including customized routines via a workout generator, pre-designed training programs, and instructional videos.

This reviewer has been putting Strength+ through its paces for the past week.

"When you open it, you can select from several different types of workouts. You can also click to follow specific training programs. I’m currently enrolled in instructor Andy Speer’s Ignite Your Strength 4-week program, which is kicking my butt! You can also watch short instructor clips, which range from everything like gym procedures and etiquette – how to load and unload a barbell, or what a plyo box is – to watching Speer look at old pictures of himself."

The app also includes a progress-tracking feature, allowing users to monitor their overall lifting volume, completed workouts, and the weights they’ve lifted.

Importantly, the app isn’t just another entry into a crowded fitness marketplace. It arrives at a time when women, driven by health and longevity concerns, are actively seeking out strength training solutions.

"That makes the launch of Peloton’s latest app very timely,” mused one user, adding, "And for someone like me, maybe even a little empowering. It’s more than just lifting weights, you know?

"Then again, I’m not saying it doesn’t.”

While the interviewer might be playfully referencing the uncertain political landscape, there’s no doubt that this shift toward strength training represents a powerful trend, and Peloton’s Strength+ app seeks to be a leader in this burgeoning fitness movement.
