The second edition of Peloton Parkinson leaves tomorrow in Eupen and arrives in Ostend on Sunday. The campaign aims to create more awareness about Parkinson’s disease and raise money for scientific research.
Ivo de Bisschop, the chairman of Stop Parkinson and himself a Parkinson’s disease patient, will travel around 400 kilometers along the Dutch border with several other cyclists to draw attention to the brain disorder. The cyclists’ stages pass through Dilsen, Hoogstraten, Kieldrecht and Maldegem. In 2020, the Bishop walked around Belgium to raise 1 million euros for research and two years ago he cycled through the country.
Parkinson’s disease is the fastest growing neurological disorder worldwide, says Stop Parkinson. By 2040, 120,000 Belgians would suffer from it and, according to the organization, until today there is no treatment available that could slow down or cure the disease.
Stop Parkinson supports a number of studies that focus, among other things, on genetics and stem cell research. The campaign can be supported through the organization’s website.
