Another bad news was suffered by the University of Chile in the run-up to the duel against the sky-blues in Rancagua. Added to the veto of the blue fans on his visit to El Teniente in the sixth region, now the blue DT, Mauricio Pellegrino, will not be able to direct on the field after being confirmed with coronavirus.
On the verge of the duel of Universidad de Chile against O’Higgins for the fifth date of the National Championship, the blue team added another bad news and that is that not only will they not be able to count on the support of their fans on their visit to El Teniente, but also his DT, Mauricio Pellegrino, will not be present in Rancagua either.
This was reported by the university team through a official announcementin which they confirmed that the Argentine strategist tested positive for coronavirus.
“The Club Universidad de Chile reports that today, Saturday February 18, the coach of our Men’s First Team, Mauricio Pellegrino, tested positive for COVID-19,” the letter began.
“Our coach presented symptoms, a situation that activated the established protocols and for which an antigen test was carried out. Due to this, Mauricio Pellegrino will not be able to be present in this Sunday’s match against O’Higgins for the fifth date of the 2023 National Championship,” the official statement closed.
In this way, the trans-Andean coach will not be able to be present to lead the blues in the duel on Sunday 02/19 at 6:00 p.m. in El Teniente.
It is worth remembering a similar situation that was experienced with the former blue DT, Rafael Dudamel, who was also infected with coronavirus on his arrival in Chile at the end of 2020 when he was preparing to take on the university cast.
