A barber who for decades cut the late Brazilian legend Pele’s hair said he hoped God would have mercy on the soccer star.
Pelé, the only man to win the FIFA World Cup three times as a player, died on Thursday at the age of 82 after a battle with colon cancer.
“He came to cut his hair twice a month and shave his beard once every two days,” said Joao Araujo, who said he first met Pele in 1956 or 1957 at his shop in Santos, where there are many memorabilia relating to the deceased star.
He added that he last met Pele last year.
“(I hope) God will have mercy on him,” she continued.
