Brazilian star Pele released a statement reassuring soccer fans who love the samba dancer legend that his health had deteriorated in recent days.
Pele had stopped responding to the chemotherapy, which he began receiving in September last year, following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his intestines.
The Brazilian newspaper “Vola” had reported that Pelé had undergone palliative care, a condition reached with the terminally ill.
But she made it clear in her statement that she was still battling cancer, saying: ‘My friends, I want to keep everyone calm and positive. I am strong, have high hopes and continue with my treatment as usual. I would like to thank the entire team doctor and nurse for all the care I received.”
He concluded: “I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world fills me with energy. And also watching Brazil at the World Cup!… Thank you so much for everything.”
