Everyone who keeps a dog in Peine is obliged to pay the dog tax. In the past year, 313,848 euros were taken. A total of 3,065 dogs were registered in Peine, 380 fewer than the year before. Tax collection has also fallen accordingly and amounted to 345,735 euros in 2021. In the years before 2021, the number of registered dogs was at a similar level as in 2022. In 2019, 3,150 dogs were registered (EUR 326,226 in tax revenue) and in 2020 there were 3,250 dogs (EUR 329,617 in tax revenue).
Animal Welfare Association calls for more support for animal shelters
In view of the steadily increasing income from the dog tax, the German Animal Welfare Association renewed its call for more support for animal shelters. Nationwide, municipal revenue from the dog tax broke the 400 million euro mark for the first time in 2021. The animal protection association recently announced that the municipalities should support the animal shelters with the dog tax collected.
